A Girl Called Eddy - Press Release, May 2004
New Jersey-born singer/songwriter Erin Moran (AKA ‘Eddy’) releases her debut single ‘Somebody Hurt You’ on Anti on June 14th.
It’s a first taste of her elegant self-titled debut album, which was produced by former Pulp guitarist Richard Hawley and features the band that graced his acclaimed solo release ‘Lowedges’.
A typically poignant tale of love and loss, ‘Somebody Hurt You’ showcases a voice akin to those of Karen Carpenter, Dusty Springfield and Chrissie Hynde. The single also features a cover of ‘Baby Plays Around’ and ‘Love Actually’ – a song penned with the film in mind, yet one which was probably too subtle and sophisticated to be sound-tracking the antics of Hugh Grant et al.
The tracklisting for the CD single is:
1) Somebody Hurt You (radio edit)
2) Love Actually
3) Baby Plays Around
4) Somebody Hurt You (album version)
A Girl Called Eddy will be supporting Josh Ritter throughout the UK in June.
“Moran’s husky, smoky voice rivals those of Beth Orton and Tracey Thorn, and fans of Aimee Mann are going to die happy... it’s the tastiest fodder for hopeless romantics and the walking wounded since Mark Eitzel’s Songs of Love Live” – The Times, June 2003
