Daniel Wylie - Press release, April 2005
DANIEL WYLIE
New album ‘Postcards’ out on July 4th
Glasgow-born singer / songwriter Daniel Wylie has always been an immensely prolific songwriter, both in his solo career and in his days as front man with Cosmic Rough Riders.
He is nearing completion on the follow up to last year’s critically acclaimed ‘Ramshackle Beauty’ album. However, he has amassed a number of tracks which he felt didn’t fit in with the themes and moods of either record but which were still more than worthy of being released – as a collection which is aptly titled, ‘Postcards’.
Typically sunny and melodic, ‘Postcards’ contains plenty of the unbelievably catchy hooks that Daniel has become renowned for. From the playful ‘doo doo doo doo’s of ‘The Cello Player’ and power choruses of ‘We Can Get It Right’ to the jangly ‘Your Eyes’ and wistful 'Bluebirds' there’s plenty here for fans old and new to enjoy.
‘Postcards’ is out on Measured Records on July 4th (Cat: MR WYLIE 005)
The lead-off single from ‘Postcards’ will be ‘Time Was’, also out on Measured Records on June 20th. (Cat: MR WYLIE 4SCD)
Here’s what some of the critics said of ‘Ramshackle Beauty’:
‘effortlessly superior pop’ Single Of The Week – Andrew Mueller, Guardian Guide
‘positively radiant’ – Iain Moffat, Rock Sound
‘a delightful West Coast jangle’ 7/10 – James Snodgrass, NME
'bathed in the light of Teenage Fanclub and Big Star's dappling rays.' – Word
'Anyone who reckons pop's finest hour happened when the Beatles, the Byrds and the Beach Boys were at their mid 1960s peak needs to get a copy of Ramshackle Beauty right now.' Pop CD of the Week - Mark Edwards, Sunday Times
'Almost every one of these 14 sunny, uplifting, jingly-jangly, insuperably catchy acoustic compositions is a potential radio hit.' - James Dellingpole, Sunday Telegraph
