James Apollo - new album ‘Good Grief ’ out 8th May2006
Aquarium Records 0128
‘With dust flaked on its lens and multiple states' worth of soil caked on the soles of its boots, James Apollo's Good Grief is a baker's dozen of Americana hallucinations.’ - Popmatters
'It makes the hairs on my arms stand up and tango' - Jason Mraz
‘…this album could almost be a narration of gigging on the road in a Steinbeckian landscape. You can almost see the tumbleweed and smell the stale bourbon. If I'd killed my wife and was driving south to cross the border, this would be my soundtrack of choice.’ - Tasty Fanzine
Born in Libertyville, Arkansas and raised in the American Mid West, James Apollo first hit the road with a band at the tender age of 16. Thousands of miles and gigs later, it’s perhaps no wonder that this self confessed ‘drifter with an eye for the lovelorn and an ear for the lowdown’ made what he describes as a ‘wandering record’.
In a rare break from global touring, ‘Good Grief’ was recorded high above the Mississippi at Analog Electric Studios with Adam Lazlo (Low). It took a mere 2 days to capture Apollo’s dusty blend of tired saloon pianos, fractured fingerboards and drums made of old suitcases.
This is his second album for Minneapolis label Aquarium Records and follows his acclaimed 2002 release ‘Sweet Unknown’ and two self-released EPs ‘Camilla’ and ‘Pull Down The Curtain’.
James will be on tour around the UK to promote the release:
