Michael Weston King - A New Kind Of Loneliness

Michael Weston King - Press Release, March 2007

Michael Weston King, ‘A New Kind Of Loneliness’ out 16th April 2007, Evangeline / Floating World (FW031)

Former frontman of The Good Sons, Michael Weston King releases ‘A New Kind Of Loneliness’ this Spring - his first album of brand new original material since 2003’s acclaimed ‘A Decent Man.’

However, the intervening period has seen the release of 2 compilations, a live album and ‘Love’s A Cover’ (Glitterhouse Records) which saw him pay homage to some of his favourite songs and writers.

The new album, particularly its title, draw inspiration from a turbulent 12 months, which saw Michael suffering a nervous breakdown, losing his mother to leukaemia and then, more happily, gaining a new baby daughter Mabel.

Most of ‘A New Kind Of Loneliness’ was recorded at The Charlatans’ studio in Manchester and was co-produced and engineered by Jim Spencer (New Order, Primal Scream, Charlatans), with extra sessions taking place at the home studio of Johnny Marr and the remote location of Bryn Derwen studios in North Wales.

Ron Sexsmith provides harmonies on ‘From Out Of The Blue’, while old mate and former producer Jackie Leven adds his unique and distinctive vocals and guitar on several tracks. Former Byrd and Flying Burrito Brother Chris Hillman also adds mandolin and harmonies on ‘My Heart Stopped Today’.

Another highlight is the album’s sole cover - a harmonium and French horn arrangement of Gilbert O’Sullivan’s hymn to sadness and loss ‘Alone Again Naturally’.

Ever industrious, Michael Weston King has also co-written a musical play ‘Happy Infidels’ with Irish playwright Brian Richmond due to debut in late 2007.

‘packed with good songs’**** - Mojo (on A Decent Man)
‘utterly compelling and beautifully wrought… a masterpiece of sorts’ – Time Out (on God Shaped Hole)
‘Kings voice is a wonderful thing - a cross between Nick Cave and Rodney Crowell’ - The Independent
