Palomino

Palomino - Press Release, February 2005

Glasgow-based 4 piece Palomino release their debut album ‘Emmanuelle’ on May 23rd through Console Sounds (Cat: console018cd).

Keeping up a grand tradition of Scottish bands like Teenage Fanclub and The Trashcan Sinatras in lightening grey skies with the sun-drenched sounds of 70s California, Palomino excel in summery harmonies and breezily immediate hooks.

The band is based around the songwriting axis of Clydebank childhood friends Marco Rea (vocals/acoustic guitar) and Michael McDaid (bass, keys, BVs). The pair formed the band Appleby before Marco went to Ireland to join The Marbles - whose members included another pair of childhood mates, guitarist Johnny McGlynn and drummer Seamus Simon. The Marbles signed to ZTT in 1998 and came to London, yet an unsettled Marco returned to Glasgow, bringing Johnny and Seamus with him. Once he reconvened with Mick, the new band was born.

The album was produced by Canadian Tom McKay (Five Guys Named Moe) in Glasgow and Toronto, and was mixed and mastered in LA by Ron St Germain (Jimi Hendrix, Smokey Robinson, Creed, 311 and Mos Def) and Joe Gastwirt (Jerry Garcia, Jimi Hendrix) respectively. Sprinting through ten songs in 35 minutes from the bouncy psychedelia of opener ‘When The Ego Hits The Ground’ to recent single and Beat 106 favourite ‘Already Waiting’, Palomino offer a fresh and invigorating take on their classic Neil Young and Dylan influences.

Franz Ferdinand recently turned up at a Palomino Glasgow show, and Marco and co would love to replicate some of the successes that their fellow Scots have achieved. With a new album already in progress, who’s to say they won’t…

Palomino will be playing live to promote the release:

March 12th London Barfly
March 31st Dundee Reading Rooms
April 20th Glasgow Bunker

'Marco Rea's vocals are not dissimilar to The Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne coupled with the low wails of Robert Plant.' – Record Collector

‘as sumptuous as fresh honey on the comb’ – Metro
