Patricia Vonne
New Album ‘Guitars & Castanets’ out 29th August 2005
Measured Records (Cat: MR VONNE 001)
‘Guitars & Castanets’ is the second album by Austin based singer-songwriter and actress Patricia Vonne. Hot on the heels of her performance as Dallas / Zorro Girl in 'Sin City', directed by her brother Robert Rodriguez, Patricia will be bringing her bilingual brand of rock’n’roll to Europe on an extensive summer tour.
Since releasing a self-titled debut in 2003, Vonne has risen rapidly in the Texan scene and has worked with such notable musicians as guitarist Charlie Sexton (Bob Dylan), keyboard player Michael Ramos (Lucinda Williams) and saxophonist Johnny Reno (Chris Isaak). Produced by Carl Thiel, the album includes tributes to inspirations Joe Ely (‘Joe’s Gone Riding’) and Alejandro Escovedo ('Guitarras y Castanuelas' – the title track, which was co written with Robert).
One of ten children, Vonne grew up in San Antonio watching classic movies and MGM musicals at the local picture house and listening to her mother singing Spanish folk songs. Later she moved to New York and provided backing vocals and bass for the band Mick & The Maelstroms. Then, after meeting her creative partner and husband Robert LaRoche at a show by his band The Sighs, began writing her own songs and honing her distinctive sound.
Tripping effortlessly from Latin rhythms to dusty roots-rock with a glamorous ease, Patricia Vonne has created a potent brew that reflects a colourful musical heritage.
The European version of the album includes the video for 'Traeme Paz', a song featured in the film Once Upon A Time In Mexico.
