“Loveliness galore for those lugubrious nights of the soul. A Ray of delight, if you will.”
- Rocksound
“Guitar notes hang in the air. Words are weighted then dispersed in the ether…..
but acutely present undercurrents of hostility, give the songs a serrated edge.” - NME
“When it comes to quintessentially British elegiac pop, Ray are masters” - Metro
Ray aren’t wasting time. ‘Daylight in the Darkroom’ is their second album in a year and will be released on July 10th. This follows last November’s critically acclaimed release ‘Deep Blue Happy’ and their 2001 debut ‘First Light’ (Rough Trade).
These 10 new songs see the band broadening their sound and range. Expansive tracks like ‘Fall on your Dagger’ and the epic war-weary ‘Dead Eyed Angels’ contrast the album’s more tender moments, captured on songs such as ‘Gold Magnolia’ and ‘Greatest Race For The Sun.’
Nev Bradford’s poetic lyrics and vocals have been compared to the likes of Nick Cave, Arthur Lee and Nick Drake. His brother Mark’s playing has been described as David Gilmour meets Johnny Marr, with his guitar helping to create a colourful and innovative backdrop to the album.
The London band are currently enjoying success in mainland Europe and spent much of last winter jump starting German tour vans in snow blizzards. This new LP should hopefully ensure them the UK breakthrough they deserve.
A download single of album track ‘Godspeed to you the Avalanche’ will be released via intomusic.co.uk on 26th June
