Redbone - Electric Soul Brew - Album cover

Redbone - Press Release, November 2004

Redbone - ‘Electric Soul Brew’
January 31st 2005 - Paraphernalia Records

Multi-talented maverick singer songwriter and producer Phil Saatchi is about to release a second album, 16 years after his debut ‘Stripped’ was out on A&M. The intervening years have seen him shy away from the spotlight, after frenzied press interest in his infamous brothers seemed to engulf genuine exposure for his own work.

Always more interested in creativity than joining a corporate circus, Saatchi has been running a studio workshop helping new and unknown artists, setting up outdoor theatre events in Zurich and making meditation albums for Australian new age label Well Being.

As a result, ‘Electric Soul Brew’ has been recorded over a period of 4 years on a laptop in Saatchi’s one-bedroom Stoke Newington flat with the help of some little-known musician friends (collectively called Redbone). It’s a far cry from the period in the late ‘80s that saw him in the studio with Sting producer Pete Smith and a long list of name session players, but a situation that suits his organic and colourful music.

Inspired by the passion of soul and original rhythm and blues’, ‘Electric Soul Brew’ hints at some eclectic and diverse tastes. His favourite artists include Bob Dylan, The Beatles, PJ Harvey, Prodigy, JJ Cale, Tricky and Joni Mitchell whilst time spent working with talents such as World Party’s Karl Wallinger and Sam Brown provided inspiration too.

Phil Saatchi programmes, sings and plays bass, keyboards and guitars on ‘Electric Soul Brew’.

With a catalogue of over 500 songs to his credit, this could just be the beginning…
