Roger Davies - Press Release, February 2005
Yorkshire born singer-songwriter Roger Davies releases his debut album ‘Littletown’ on Headroom Records on 23rd May (Cat:HD6)
Davies is a much travelled troubadour. Initially inspired more by canvas than chords he left his hometown of Brighouse to study painting in Dundee. After hanging out with Snow Patrol and some intimate gigs in the student union bar, Davies briefly continued his artistic education in Chicago. However, during an extra curricular songwriting class he heard the music of Bob Dylan and was so moved he became besotted with making music.
After this personal epiphany Davies returned to Yorkshire and, taking Edward Hopper's seasoned advice, ‘if you could say it in words there'd be no reason to paint...’ put down his palette and picked up his guitar to pursue his dream.
While working in a record shop he was exposed to more classic songwriting by the likes of Ryan Adams and Richard Thompson. So Davies decided to formalise his natural talent. In 2004 he headed south to study songwriting at the Brighton Institute of Modern Music where he attracted the rapt attention of guitarist Jon Stewart (Sleeper/KD Lang) and ex-Squeeze star, Chris Difford.
Roger Davies' songs are narrative snapshots of life. His big-hearted debut namechecks local places like Rayner Road and Emley Moor while the album title itself is a reference to his native Huddersfield. As Davies says," I don't think people should be afraid or ashamed of who they are or where they come from." Home is where his heart is.
Davies enhanced his flourishing fan-base in 2004 at support gigs with Cara Dillon and Alex Lloyd. He’s on tour in May to promote the album:
