The Cortez Loop - Press Release, February 2005
Release Debut EP, 18th April 2005
London-based four-piece The Cortez Loop release their self-titled Debut EP on 18th April 2005, via Redemption Records (Cat No. RRUKCD703).
The creative force behind The Cortez Loop is 22 year old singer/songwriter Alex Gordon.
The youngest of three siblings and the product of a socialist father and French aristocratic mother, Alex grew up on a South East London council estate. His musical adventure began at 14 when he formed his first band with school friends.
Several demo EP’s, strong support gigs and tours followed over the next few years (including The Electric Soft Parade ‘Holes in the Wall’ tour, and Paul Weller in Hyde Park, 2002). Yet on the eve of signing a record deal Alex decided to split the band; feeling that his vision and songs were being compromised.
For his next project, The Cortez Loop, Alex experimented with a rotating group of musicians, but in 2004 he formed the definitive line-up with drummer Colin Oldfield, Bass player Dave Wheeldon, and keys player Dominic Elmidoro. Influenced by the likes of Neil Young, The Velvet Underground, Joy Division and The Clash, The Cortez Loop have been compared to the likes of Jeff Buckley and Doves.
The debut EP was co-produced by Alex and Jan Kybert (Oasis, Bjork, Massive Attack, Paul Weller). It’s a dynamic showcase for the band’s eclectic repertoire – from the wired up jagged punk ‘Home of the Blind’ to the beautiful, melancholic hush of ‘Turn You Around’.
The band will be touring throughout April and May to promote the record. In the meantime, they have a London show on 9th March at the Bull & Gate, Kentish Town.
