The Ghost Who Walks ‘Mortal Coil’ (BiPolar) out 4th Oct ‘04
You’ve read the book … now hear the record.
‘I Was Bono’s Doppelganger’, Neil McCormick’s memoir of his life as a struggling musician has been garnering glowing reviews.
“The best book I have ever read about trying to make it in the music business" - SIR ELTON JOHN
“Neil McCormick gave rock n' roll the best years of his life. This excruciatingly honest and painfully funny memoir is the result. A book for every dreamer who ever pouted in the bathroom mirror and saw a superstar grinning back. A love story of innocence and innocence lost.” - JOSEPH O'CONNOR (bestselling author of Star of the Sea)
“The best sort of book about rock, being both personal and intimate and written in a lovely way, illuminating a dozen big subjects by side-light." ANDREW O'HAGAN (bestselling author of All Our Fathers)
“Honest and hilarious” Daily Telegraph
“Funny, painful and ironic, it’s a heartbreaking ride of rock’n’roll wannabes” Daily Record
“This book will make you laugh and wince but proves that McCormick is talented.” Ireland on Sunday
”A great cautionary tale for all those who aspire to celebrity” - Daily Mail
“This book has oodles of potential for falling flat on its face, but Neil
McCormick has the bravado, the ego and the bloody-minded obstinacy to pull it off.” Sunday Times
“An incisive meditation on the lure of fame.” U2log.com
Neil’s debut solo album Mortal Coil (featuring music from I Was Bono’s Doppelganger) is about to be released under his alias The Ghost Who Walks.
Bono has been raving about The Ghost Who Walk’s album: “It’s extraordinary. Not a dull tune on it. This is as good as it gets.” Virgin Radio’s Captain America described it as “a work of Godlike genius.” Sting has declared himself a fan, bizarrely confessing “I even did yoga to it!” Mel Gibson personally selected The Ghost Who Walks’ beautiful ballad Harm’s Way for his Songs Inspired by the Passion of the Christ album (where The Ghost made his major label debut between Elvis Presley and Leonard Cohen). The Hit Sheet hailed The Ghost Who Walks’ song of spiritual confusion ‘I Found God’ as “anthemic enough to be a major hit”. Bono described it as “a classic” and said “I’ve been trying to write that song my whole life.”
Poetic and melodic, Mortal Coil is an album that has been a lifetime in the making. Encompassing gospel, hard rock, country, pop, hip hop and rock’n’roll, it is the work of a genuine music lover with a lot to say about the world we live in today.
In a parallel universe, Neil McCormick is the music critic for the Daily Telegraph. But he trusts that his colleagues in the fourth estate won’t hold this against him.
The Ghost Who Walks will be making two rare live appearances:
Tuesday September 28th at The Bedford, Balham (London, SW12)
Monday October 18th at The Borderline (London, W1) with a stellar cast of special guests.
