The Hazey Janes - Hotel Radio Album

The Hazey Janes - Press Release, November 2005

The Hazey Janes Release Album 'Hotel Radio', 30th January 2006

"they'll certainly put a warm glow in the cockles of any heart" Johnny Black, Mojo
"easy-going pop and gorgeous harmonies... can comfortably be discussed in the same breath as the likes of Hal and The Thrills" Playlouder
"With the energy and pop sensibilities of Ash, things look bright for these young musicians" The Herald

Dundee - once famed for jute, jam and journalism is now home to the jaunty pop melodies of The Hazey Janes.

After the well-deserved praise and attention heaped on their eponymous mini-album in 2004, the Scottish quartet escaped the Caledonian rain and absconded to Spain. The Hazey Janes first full-length LP "Hotel Radio" was recorded at the studios of legendary Spanish producer Paco Loco (Josh Rouse/Jeff Tweedy) in Cadiz; a world away from the Dundee dreich and dull tenement flat where the songs were conceived.

Fuelled by the unrelenting Andalucian sun (and copious amounts of chilled Irn Bru), the band expanded their sound with the addition of more pedal-steel, viola, banjo and melodica.

Acknowledging both the past (Big Star, The Beach Boys) and the present (Magic Numbers, Rilo Kiley), the resultant record is packed with life-affirming, indie pop (Your Enemy/Don't Look Away) and breezy Americana (Always There/Step Into The Country). Swooping and soaring with all the trademark Hazey Jane harmonies, "Hotel Radio" still makes room for melancholic melodies (This Place/Katie Goes).

The great and the good of alt-country passed by the studios including Gary Louris (The Jayhawks), who provided backing vocals (Baby Tell Me), and Sara Lee Guthrie who offered the band her support and sage advice over tapas and rioja. "Hotel Radio" was engineered by the esteemed John Agnello (Patti
Smith /Dinosaur Jnr/The Kills) and mastered by Greg Calbi in New York.
